Despite somewhat declining viewership, World of Warcraft: Classic is still the most popular game on Twitch. And the competition isn’t even close. According to the metrics by, WoW Classic leads the current #2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, almost three times.

That’s quite the gap, considering that CS:GO has the StarLadder Major going on. While combined across all channels, the StarLadder Major and CS:GO place much higher in terms of average daily viewers and beat WoW Classic in that regards, the interest the 15-year-old MMO brings is outstanding. The game never came close to repeating its day one viewership peak of 1.13M, but around 250K people are watching it on average every day and peaks are in the 330-370K range.

The success of WoW Classic also came with a change in the rankings of the most popular streamers on Twitch. This time, it’s not Shroud, or Riot Games, or even StarLadder’s Major CS:GO channels on Twitch. According to The Esports Observer, the most watched channel for the past week has been Asmongold’s, which generated more than 7.9M hours watched between August 26 and September 1. In addition, more than 7,000 channels are streaming WoW Classic daily and 55.3M hours of content have been consumed in the past week alone.

And it’s been quite a week for the game, with many of the notable world firsts being broken already. Jokerd was the first player to hit the cap of level 60 and EU guild APES beat everybody else to clear the Onyxia and Ragnaros raids.

Unlike CS:GO, League of Legends, and Fortnite, however — all of which have clear outlined futures — WoW Classic will soon have to start asking the question “What’s next?” Can the game keep if not the same, than at least comparable viewership, once there’s no content to discover and no raids to clear? The ball is in Blizzard’s hands for them to ride the hype and nostalgia waves for as much as they want. It’s evident the players love the good old days of WoW, so progression servers for The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King are the logical next steps.
