League of Legends Patch 9.13 is coming and is bringing in a lot of changes.

The biggest one for most fans is the introduction of Qiyana, Empress of the Elements. A new melee assassin, Qiyana’s gimmick is empowering her abilities by channeling the terrain of the Rift itself.

The other new thing that Patch 9.13 is introducing is Teamfight Tactics, the Auto Chess mod which is now out of PBE testing and will be made available world wide. Full launch schedule of Teamfight Tactics is available here:

The rest of the patch is mostly balance changes. The first big ones are Pyke and Sona, both of whom got slightly nerfed. Pyke’s solo lane wave clear has been toned down to prevent him from snowballing, and Sona’s Q aura damage ratio and E bonus movement speed ratio have both been nerfed.

Pyke

Q – Bone Skewer

STAB TARGETING — AoE (30% reduced damage on non-champions) ⇒ Single target (hits nearest unit, preferring nearest champion)
[REMOVED] BONUS STAB DAMAGE — Bone Skewer’s stab cast no longer deals 15% bonus damage
COOLDOWN —14/12.5/11/9.5/8 seconds ⇒ 12/11/10/9/8 seconds

W – Ghostwater Dive

MOVEMENT SPEED —40% (decaying over 5 seconds) ⇒ 40/45/50/55/60% (decaying over 5 seconds)

E – Phantom Undertow

[REMOVED] MINION & MONSTER DAMAGE — Phantom Undertow no longer damages non-champions

Sona

Q – Hymn of Valor

AURA DAMAGE RATIO0.3 ability power ⇒ 0.2 ability power

E – Song of Celerity

BONUS MOVEMENT SPEED RATIO 6% movement speed per 100 ability power⇒ 3% movement speed per 100 ability power

“While it may seem like we’re doing this just because of the in-vogue bot lane Sona,” Riot Games explains, “she’s been extremely close to our thresholds for acceptable win rates (outlined in our Balance Framework that you should go read if you haven’t already) in solo queue for awhile and is the most commonly banned bot lane champion in pro play right now.”

It’s not just nerfs, however. Sylas is getting some love after being stuck in the gutter for too long. Champion.gg ranks Sylas as one of the worst champions in the game, with just 41% win rate in top and 42% win rate in mid. Riot’s solution to this is straight up stat increase to his attack damage, health growth and W.

Sylas

Base Stats

ATTACK DAMAGE — 58 ⇒ 61
HEALTH GROWTH —85 ⇒ 95

W – Kingslayer

BASE DAMAGE — 60/90/120/150/180 ⇒ 65/100/135/170/205

The other changes in the patch, include:

  • Major buff to Illaoi, including rework of most of her abilities and a buff to her ultimate.
  • Stats overhaul of Udyr‘s various abilities to make him more attractive to play
  • Small nerfs to Karma and Sivir
  • Buffs to Randuin’s Omen, and Rod of Ages
  • Nerf to Essence Reaver (it got more expensive)
