OGA Dota PIT Online playoffs kicked off today, May 21, with the upper bracket semifinals. OG and Team Secret, the top seeds from each group played for a spot into the top three against the second placed team from the other group.

OG’s adversaries were Ninjas in Pyjamas, who hoped to make their way into the upper bracket finals with Broodmother. Given the accelerated farm that Brood can aquire, NiP held the advantage in game one for the first 20 minutes, however, OG countered their plan with a Magnus last pick and were able to spin the game on its head once Sébastien “Ceb” Debs had Blink Dagger and BkB ready. Going into the second game, NiP had the last pick in the draft and saved it for another Broodmother once they realized that OG don’t have strong counters anymore. Their game plan worked perfectly and OG got run over in about 25 minutes.

Unfortunately for NiP, their offlane player Jonáš “SabeRLight-” Volek couldn’t connect for the third game and a last minute stand-in was needed. The good news was that Ivan “MinD_ContRoL” Ivanov was ready to help a friend in need. The bad news was that the lack of practice together didn’t bring the same result as last year when MC helped NiP to reach top four at the Kuala Lumpur Major. Most likely, the game three plan for NiP was to push for another Brood Mother strategy, but they kind of telegraphed their intention and after they took out of the hero pool Earthshaker, Leshrac, Batrider and Magnus and OG didn’t hesitate to ban the Brood. Meepo was also banned by OG, so NiP were left with none of their cheese strategies and were forced to a last pick Queen of Pain to round out their pushing line-up. OG sent Ceb in the mid lane on Legion Commander for a better matchup versus QoP, while Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng went to the offlane on Razor, causing a lot of trouble to NiP’s carry. Despite a few good skirmishes in the mid lane, courtesy of well-timed rotations from Mind_ControL on Dragon Knight, NiP couldn’t really pose a threat to OG and were dropped to the lower bracket.

The second semifinal was a Team Secret vs Alliance rematch from last week’s Gamers without Borders semifinals, where Alliance took a game from Secret and stopped an 18-0 winning streak. This time around, Clement “Puppey” Ivanov didn’t mess around and came prepared for full revenge.

Both games went past the 50 minute mark, but the Secret weapon was Yazied “YapzOr” Jaradat on Earthshaker. He went for a rather greedy build, with both Blink Dagger and Shadow Blade, in game two even finding the farm for Force Staff, and managed to turn each fight in his team favor. With today’s 2-0 victory over Alliance, Team Secret are yet again reaching the finals stages undefeated and are slowly building on another win streak. So far, they are 10-0 in OGA Dota PIT Online and will fight for a spot into the grand finals against OG, tomorrow, may 22 at 20:00 CET.
