A week into the group stage matches at EPIC League Division 1, Team Liquid sits at the very bottom of the group with four losses in a row.

After reaching two grand finals in a row and claiming an important championship trophy at ESL One Germany Online earlier this month, Team Liquid seem to have lost the steam to power through yet another stacked tournament. Their group stage run at the $500,000 Epic League has been nothing but abysmal so far. They lost to Natus Vincere, Just Error, Vikin.gg and last night they also dropped 0-2 against Team Secret.

During this online season Team Liquid were one of the very few teams able to take down Secret. They did it at WePlay! Pushka League, Beyond Epic and ESL One Germany. However, last night’s series was a total beat down from Secret, who looked determined to take revenge over those who eliminated them from the latest ESL tourney. Game one was a Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen Sven show, while in the second game it was Michał “Nisha” Jankowski’s turn to shine on Dragon knight. Both games featured strong sustain spells coming from captain Clement “Puppey” Ivanov on Omniknight and Io, allowing Secret to outlast Liquid’s initiations and team fight.

Unfortunately for Team Liquid, the loss against Team Secret puts them at the very bottom of the group, but the battle for a spot into the playoffs is far from being over. Team Liquid still have five more series to play and can recover over the course of next week of battles. Their next adversaries are the rivals from Alliance, who are also dangerously low in the group, with three defeats in a row. The series is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, November 22 at 17:00 CET and could potentially make the difference for one of these two teams.

The EPIC League Division1 group stage will unfold until December 5, when two squads will be eliminated. So far, Vikin.gg are the uncontested leaders of the pack with a 4-0 series score, followed by Natus Vincere with 3-0 and Team Nigma with three victories and one loss.
