Of the many online Dota 2 tournaments happening right now, the Cyber.bet Cup: Spring Series declared winners in the two regions it was played – Southeast Asia and Europe. Geek Fam took the plaudits in SEA while Vikin.gg, which is a team that is slowly but surely rising to the top, won the EU version of the tournament.

The SEA region has gotten quite competitive in the last few months and Geek Fam have been a team that has seen a lot of ups and downs. They have never consistenly been a top team, but on thier day, have the potential to beat anyone. In the Cyber.bet Cup, Geek Fam were on top of their game throughout the tournament with a 13-1 win-loss record throughut the event, including the group stages. Geek Fam defeated Cignal Ultra 2-0 in the upper bracket finals and then 3-0 in the grand finals to make the point that they were a tier above all the other teams in the competition.

The EU format was a bit a different with no group stages and teams starting directly in a double elimination bracket. Vikin.gg went 9-3 throughout the event, staying in the upper bracket the whole time. Just like Geek Fam, they met the same adversary twice. Vikin.gg dispatched off OG Seed 2-1 the first time and 3-1 the second to claim their second tournament win in recent weeks, after they recently also won the WePlay! Pushka League EU Division 2 title.

The Cyber.bet Cup comprised of tier two teams (and some which are between tier one and tier two), and Geek Fam and Vikin.gg amply demonstrated that they deserve a place with the big boys of the region. That will exactly be the case when the two teams start their journey in ESL One Birmingham this week. Victory in the Cyber.bet Cup will be a huge confidence boost and it will be interesting to see how they fare up against the best in the business while riding on the momentum from this win.
