With the first Major of the new season wrapping up this coming weekend in Chengdu, China, those who missed their chance on the first round of qualifiers are now making the last arrangements for the DreamLeague Leipzig Major and WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020.
The season started rather disastrous for the CIS scene. Virtus.pro qualified for the DOTA Summit Minor, but later on, they forfeited their slot to actually focus on building their new roster. Two CIS teams fought for the title at the DOTA Summit Minor, and none of them managed to make it to the Major. Team Spirit and Gambit Esports were the two CIS teams that qualified for MDL Chengdu, with the latter actually coming as one of the favorites for a top 3 finish given their incredible run at ESL One Hamburg, where they pushed TNC to a decisive game five. Nonetheless, neither Gambit nor Team Spirit reached even top eight in China, which means that the CIS fans have no team to cheer for in the MDL Chengdu Main Event.
However, the next round of DPC qualifiers should look better for CIS, as most of the scene legends are rallying for battle.
In an interview in early October, Danil “Dendi” Ishutin talked about his plans of building an organization of his own, where he wants to do “something that everyone will enjoy. It would be something I would be sure in and would have my full trust, my full power, I would give myself completely to this thing,” he explained. “There are a lot of ways to go about it. I also think that I’m going to build a team in some new way of methodology. I want to give back to people that are cheering for me from all over the world, that’s why I decided I wanted to do it in the way I see fit. I will try to make people happy so they can follow something they like and can rely on,” Dendi declared to esportobserver at the beginning of the season.
He didn’t play in the first round of qualifiers, but the Viet Flashbacks squad that he is joining now made it to the MDL Chengdu regional qualifiers via open brackets. They were eliminated in the group stage, therefore didn’t advance to the Minor qualifiers. Heading into the second wave of Major and Minor events, Viet Flashbacks kept only two players, Alexey “nongrata” Vasilyev and Rinat “KingR” Abdullin, and will look to push for a ticket to the DreamLeague Leipzig Major or the WePlay! Bukovel Minor alongside Dendi, Alik “V-Tune” Vorobey and Nikola “LeBronDota” Popović.
Viet Flashbacks roster from position 1 to 5:
- Alik “V-Tune” Vorobey
- Danil “Dendi” Ishutin
- Alexey “nongrata” Vasilyev
- Rinat “KingR” Abdullin
- Nikola “LeBronDota” Popović
