A day after his officially departure from Vitality, Alex “ALEX” McMeekin has found a new home with Cloud9. ALEX had been with Vitality since the latter part of 2018 after being picked up for LDLC. The 24-year-old helped to guide the team to 11 consecutive playoffs where they seemed able to best everyone but Team Liquid who were dominating the scene at the time.
Now he’ll be looking to do the same with the new Cloud9 project being managed by Henry “HenryG” Greer (General Manager) and Aleksandar “kassad” Trifunović (Coach). Greer will be helming the organizations fourth rebuild/restructure in only 2.5 years as they’ve tried unsuccessfully up to this point to capture the same results found during ELEAGUE Major Boston championship run. Being crowned the first North American major winners was nice, but they want more.
Another important note from the announcement is HenryG’s decision to reveal more details regarding the signing including the value of the deal. In a tweet from his own account, the GM of Cloud9 CS:GO revealed that ALEX has been signed for 3 years with a deal value of $1,650,000.
In terms of why he’s chosen to share this information, the Cloud9 GM had the following to say:
“As controversial and unorthodox a move it may appear, I’m excited to be able to reveal far more specific details to his contract than you’ve ever heard in any past blockbuster deal. I consider this a celebration of our investment into world class talent and long-term commitment to building a special team with our players and the game that fuels my passion. I want this information to reflect my mission statement of forging a team built stronger than the rest and destined for the podium.”
